Tool#7 Photo Story

Digital story was an interesting tool since I always wondered how people did it to hang educational videos in youtube and other websites.
It was kind of frustrational the part where I had to hang the video up in my blog since it took me several days to be done, but I learned from this experience that sometimes the blogs get busy but there is always help to ask for. Once I had the pictures it was easy to create the video with the music I had already in my computer.
I believe this tool can be applied to any subject and it is going to be easy for kids once they are taught how to do it, they are going to have fun learning how to create sequence of events, stories, etc.

Final Questions

1. My favorite tools in my personal technology toolbox are:
Diigo is one of those tools I want to use to organize bookmarks my students will use to save sites I can refer to when working as a group with the IPODs AND iMACs.
Wordle is a tool I want to use for spelling in Spanish and English, instead of creating presentations that take more time.
Skype is definetely a videoconference tool that will get me closer to those students that need extra help to solve a project, homework or a parent conference from home or any other place.

2. I have you transfomed my thinking about the learning that will take place in my classroom by being exposed to new tools I was looking for in order to deliver information in different ways to different learners at a different peace. Also I reflect on the skills I need to reinforce when developing student's minds into a new era of Education. As a teacher I realize that I represent a strong connection with the new ways to learn by changing my role to a facilitator of learning but providing a strong support to drive the learning to educational purposes to create independent thinkers.
3. There were some unexpected outcomes from this program like I am amazed of the broad source that Google represents besides being a simple searching engine, but also the great offer of new tools that have been created with the purpose of decreasing the amount of information we send through email that can be stolen or copied. I had thought about teachers and students leaving the classrooms as a still far away idea, but after knowing this program it might be closer in USA education.

Tool #11 Digital Citizenship

The early years are going to be the base of the future students that are going to be formed to use their own criteria to narrow the information they receive from all the Internet sources.
Teacher's thinking out loud when looking for information in the web, could be useful to show kids that we do not go by the first messages a searching engines launches. Teaching reading stategies like: synthetizing information and making conclusions are going to be strong processes a teacher should stress by modeling in the classroom and parents at home.

Expressing an opinion is also another skill that I believe, is going to be stressed when teaching kids to use technology, since their mind is going to be exposed to blogging and sharing information with people with different opinions which gives the opportunity to encourage civility.
Strong thinkers we will create for the following years to come, since the media will be there to attract attention for different purposes but also great resources are out there to increase the use of neurons.Parent involvement is imperative to educate in a different way kids that enter into a new era of information.

My way to teach the digital citizenship starts the day students touch one the IPOD's, PC's or any other technology by sharing that the purpose of involving tech. in learning is to maximize the use of time, enhance the learning per student and to evolve the way we communicate with others with the purpose of using information to be used for the common good. This message is something to be repeated and modeled in different ways by different people, therefore, each memeber of the the education community will take a big piece to form the big picture.

Tool #10 Apps

In the IPOD's training I attended over the summer, I had the chance to play with one and also with an IPAD which I consider better because of the bigger size than the IPOD, however is heavier and not as easy to handle with one hand and type with the other but you can always place it on your lap. Anyway, I got amazed of the easy to access the apps.I strongly believe many teachers will love IPODS because they represent a way to engage a wide variety of learners but also it is a motivation to students to learn outside the classroom (with the proper supervision and restriction to educational purposes) and not depend on the amount of an Adult can handle.
I like the App. HearPlanet because you can access maps and current photos of places you want to show to students in a Social Studies class, also the can preview a City they want to visit and the symbols to get information regarding the City.

The App. iWeather is a good source for kids to look for current weather in different places of the world so that they can compare and learn about climate in a Social Studies class but also they can keep a record of temperature in a Math class to calculate increase or drop of grades. It is very simple but a great application to show a real life use of why we use thermometers.
There are hundreds of thousands of apps. out there, but unfortunately not all of them are free.Let's share those each teacher finds on the way!

Tool#9 Sharing Info

the screencast could help my students to use the computer to record image and video that can be watched later. The stage is the screen of a computer that has a camera.
Those videos could contain explanations of concepts made by students, presentations, homework and information that we want to be shared among groups, grades, schools and the world. The same way as a group we can benefit from screencast from other students that want to share theirs in order to exchange knowledge.
Jing then is the tool we need to make this come true.

Skype is a tool that sets the base to have video conferences with Book authors, students that need extra help in school, kids that did not attend school and want to take advantaje of the time to study the lesson at home, also the tool serves the purpose of learning from other students around the world and across the nation what they want to share i.e. book reviews, lessons, complex concepts, etc.
Parent communication with teachers can be enhanced through this tool since documents, pictures, files and other information can be shared literally at the click of a button. The involvement of a parent is important for student success and everybody knows that, therefore the two tools explained in this blog are what most parents who have a lack of time, were waiting for.

My personal Skype account is: karla.urtiz I love the searching for people tool that Skype has, I have found people only by using name or country they live in.

Tool #8 Videos

Source: www.blinks.com
Water cycle video: http://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/watercycle/2R3jFyaU7LAh-sXj9Wa4KQ
Plant and animal adaptations: http://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/animal-and-plant-adaptations/4x6lT-meqXrbTcmGVIyCWA

Videos are an important source to deliver learning because they target better the different type of learner we have in a classroom. Some videos can be used to introduce a lesson or to make a conclusion, also they can be as interactive as the ones we currently use in brainpop.com with questions to answer.
The two selected videos provide students the opportunity to learn in a short period of time information we will discuss and process in order to journal, that way students have more resources to back on when thinking about something they are going to explain.

Tool #6 Wikis

My students might use wikis to create complete sentences in the first days of school by adding one each person by using our new Ipods or laptops, that way I can show them that we do not need to be all together to keep learning or adding to our WIKI.
Another use is in Writing, students can keep adding sentences with details regarding a topic, this can be added individually or in groups by using tech.
The wiki can be also used when preparing for Fieldtrips with my team by writing the responsabilities and times each member has to complete, then that wiki will keep us informed with what needs to be done or completed and what is ready. It is also a way to create questions for tests, feed back information with SIS's and other members without using emails that can get lost or deleted by mistake.
